If you rely on Medicaid today, be aware requirements are changing in April 2023
In 2020, the federal government stopped requiring the annual Medicaid redetermination process in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, state Medicaid agencies have continued to pause this process.
Beginning April 2023, most states will begin the Medicaid redetermination process again, so you may need to re-apply and receive approval to continue Medicaid coverage.
If you rely on Medicaid today, now is the time to get ready for this change:
- Visit Medicaid.gov for more information.
- Confirm your contact information (mailing address and phone number) with your state agency to make sure you receive important communication about the changes and application process.
- Respond to all Medicaid-issued notices about renewal and provide any requested documentation to verify eligibility.

If you or your spouse has had a change in employment status, you may be able to sign up for an employer-sponsored health insurance plan through your job or your spouse's job. Check with the employer's human resources department for more information. You also may purchase a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
